Camping and Caving in Gatineau Park

Faced with rain and a chilly temperature the St Pat's outdoor enthusiasts showed incredible perseverance and strength of character on their first camping trip of the year.

After a 3km hike to our site and setting up tents in rain (or was that snow) we enjoyed a tasty warm meal. After an unexpected early rise, we got were on our way to the Lusk Caves. Thanks to low water levels, everyone was able to complete part of the caves and 5 brave people were submerged waist deep in cold water in order to escape out the bottom of the caves.

After a quick change of clothes we were off of the remainder of the hike with Lac Philippe on our right. With approximately 10km of hiking behind us, many campers chose to have some quiet time upon returning to camp while others engaged in a game of ultimate frisbee to use up the last of all their energy!

Pleased by the drier conditions, we enjoyed a campfire and many evening games before trying some bannock and heading for bed.

All in all, it was a very successful trip with an outstanding group of campers. Looking forward to sharing many more funfilled activities

  2. Camping at Lac Philippe was an incredible start for Outdoor Ed! This camp gave us the opportunities to get familiar with the surrounding environment and nature as well as each other in our group. My glow (highlight) of the camping trip was the bonding time we as a group shared. My gripe was the unfortunate weather we endured during the camping trip. The food was absolutely amazing, and the adventures we went through have been nothing but incredible experiences. Overall, I think this camp was an enjoyable experience and I hope for more to come. Thanks - Kimchiboi.

  3. Although i've been camping/hiking in the past, this experienced has truely taught me many things about the wilderness and how to cooperate with other people to get a certain goal accomplished. The one thing i will never forget is establishing such a strong friendship with most of the member of this outdoor ed group. SHOUTOUT TO CLETUS KIM. HOLLA. I really hope to keep on learning about the wilderness thus, this is an important skill to know at its fullest potnetial!

  4. Camping at Lac Philippe in Gatineau Park was an incredible experience. This trip was my first time camping and I was simply amazed by how much fun it was being in the widerness especially when you are surrounded by all your friends and peers. I found that the hiking and caving was the highlight of the trip however, everyone was able to bond very well with one another which made the experience all the more fun! Unfortunately, the weather was not the greatest, but I found that it taught us how to cope with harsh conditions and how to stay warm and be safe. I really hope that our next camping trip will be just as fun as this one! :)

  5. The whole camping trip was just awesome for me! For my first time camping, it's just an experiece I'll never forget. The hike on the first day was hard but a great experience. I am very thakful for the guys who've helped me out and lent a hand to get up and get down. As for dinner that night, it was just fantastic and tasty! The hot water with the mixture of hot chocolate for me was the greatest treat for the nights. While having those good hot chocolate and talking about our highlights and downs was very good and relaxing hearing others comments. The games we played were also nice, the game we played during the bus trip, playing mafia and assasin, getting "killed" and "killing people" was just fun. The hike through the cave was an experience I loved the most. If I ever have the opportunity again, I would definitely go again! Overall, meeting new people and getting to know them and having a time of our lives together was just great.

  6. I have been camping a few times before but never like this, this trip took a lot of endurance and energy (in a good way). After we got off the bus we had a 3 km hike ahead of us through the trees and uneven ground. A constant question asked was are you ok? We got to the campsite and set up our tents and had a wonderful dinner. The next day after a very early wake up and an awesome breakfast we set out on our hike; destination Lusk caves. The caves were so amazing; I have never seen anything like them. Going through them was a great experience. Then we hiked back to the campsite; after hiking all day some of us still decided to play ultimate Frisbee. Luckily the rain held off Saturday so we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset and campfire. All the games over the weekend also made sure we never had a dull moment; after all it is hard to be bored when you might be “murdered” at any second. Unfortunately on Sunday we had to pack up and leave. Overall this trip was amazing, it was a great experience and the class is full of great people; we had many laughs. I have never had so much fun camping!
